NSW Technology Strategy Released

The NSW Government today released its final report on how it will buy and use billions of dollars in technology for the next ten years.

The process is thought to be an important step that leads to cloud computing, which saves money and improves flexibility by hosting computers in off-site locations connected to users via the internet.

But while cloud computing is the basis of products like Google’s Gmail and Facebook, it also comes with risks because all services become dependent on the internet.

The Government is moving much slower on cloud systems than industry would prefer and has only committed to establishing a pilot “private cloud” that uses systems owned by its own agencies by Q2 2013 with agencies migrated to “private cloud” systems by 2015.
